MR. WATT'S RESIGNATION
« STATEMENT REPLIED TO BY MR. ' HUGHES. Melbourne, October 21. Mr. W. SI. Hughes, replying to Mr. Watt, said that even if he did meddle with Mr. Watt's business that was no reason for Mr. Watt resigning. Mr. Watt should have completed his task and complained l on returning to Australia, No Government could give the authority demanded by Mr. Watt. His reouest involved a principle, and abrogated the very basis of responsible government. • The matter then- dropped. The general impression is that Mr. Watt's speech was a disappointment. It is suggested m some quarters'that his resignation arose through the clashing of two strong personalities'—Press Assn. >
