The monthly sitting of the Pctone Magistrate's Court was held on Wednesday, Ifr, i\ K. Hunt, S.M., presiding

. Failure to coimjlv with the conditions of the by-law respecting the provision oflamps on bicycles after sunset cost each of the following 10s., with coils 7s.:—J. E. Croft, P. Ansell, P. Fielding, W. Grant, G. Hitchcock, If. Nankiville, Jf. Bcevc, T. Shiiw; and Sj Trewethick. A lad named E. A. Knight for a similar offence was fined ss. and 7s. costs. For riding on the footpath V. liradley and W. Noble were each lined ss„ with 7s. costs.

P. G. Bond, for failing to attend parade, waß fined 40b. and 7s. costs, in default three days' military detention.

For failing to send her child to school, if. Ellicock was fined 10s„ and 7s. co6tj>.

Exceeding the motor-car speed limit was responsible for, J. C. Lambs being lined £1 and costa 17s. 6d. For not having had his motor lorry licensed in the borough of Petone, W. Goodman was lined 10s. and costß 17s. 6d. For a similnr infringement in respect to a van. Sing On Tie was lined £1 and coats 17s. 6d.

Martha K-iggs proceeded against jher husband, Adrian W. liiirtts, who had failed to comply with the conditions of a maintenance order, the arrears iu reaped- of which had amounted to £14 2s, It was mentioned by counsel for defendant (Mr. A. P(.re) that the initial order made Ip> the Court had been, cancelled in favour of one drawn up by mutual agreement, by which arrangement defendant's weekly contribution towards the support of hip wife and child had been reduced by nnehalf. The defendant had got into arrear through his being unable to obtain work. Several inquiries by tho Bench elicited the information that during tho past ten weeks defendant had earned £23, over and above hia military pension. His Worship decided to vary the first order, making the weekly contribution £1, and also reduce tho arrears to £7, which defendant will bo required to pay off at the rate of 10s. per week. • In two tenement cases, E. If. Dlsch v. 0. H. Smith, and IS. P. Webster v. li. V. Oarberry, orders for possession in one month were made. In a civil action,"Petone Howing (!' v. Walter Cotton, a" claim for £27 10s.. damages for alleged breach of contract in connection with the catering arrangements at the club'B recent ball, judgment war catered for defendant. No coßts were chimed.
