Sir,—May I suggest, to the Legislature that, while amending the Death Butios •Act, they fhould increase the widow's exemption from estate dutv (under section 13 of that Act) from .£SOOO to at Ifast JG7500. The great increase in the cost of living will surely justify this ' indulgence. I have in view the estato if a testator who invested all hip savings, amounting to .£(5000 oV .£7OOO, in War Loan stock The widow's income of .£270 to .£3OO is worth no more than ,£2OO was in 1914, and she has no one to earn monev for her and her children. Remember that the duty is not paid by the dead man, but by the living woman. —I am, etc., T.
