Lord Weir, addressing the Chamber of ' Commerce at Glasgow on the future rela--5 tions of the Statw, Capital, and Labour, : said that if the Government was under an obligation to relieve unemployment it | should have a voice in dealing with the ;. policy that produced unemployment. It 1 would be justified in seeking a revision of trade union policy as to freedom of employment, and relief should be withheld from such unions opposing utilisal tion of -unskilled and semi-skilled work- ; ers. While it might' be legitimate to decline, work under specified conditions, it could not be legitimate to prevent others accepting the, conditions, y«t the unions were using this power with ever-increas-ing tyranny and ruthlessness.
