IMPRISONMENT FOR FALSE PRETENCES
Henvv Tletter, who had pleaded guilty to a charge of false pretences at Featherston, appeared for sentence in the Supreme Court yesterday before His Honour Mr. Justice Salniond. Mr. P. Prcii' deville appeared tor the Crown, and Mr. 11. F. O'Leary for the prisoner. In asking for leniency, counsel pointed out that letter was at present tho sole fuppovt of ii number of children who had been left on his hands by their mother. Prisoner had lived villi this woman for a number of year?, and some time ago ehe had deserted him.
Ilia Honour said that prisoner had a bad record, and that his first offence was evasion of military service by. passing hini.'ol'f off as a second reservist, whereas he- was unmarried. The fentence of the Court was three months' imprisonment with hard labour.
