Vice-Eegad. On October 30 the Governor-General (Viscount Jellicoe), accompanied by Lady Jellicoe, will make his first Vice-Eegal visit to Auckland. His Excellency proposes to arrive in Auckland at 2.55 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, and a civic, reception will be'accorded him in the Town Hall. In the eveniug a citizens "at home" will .also be held in the Town Hall. On Monday, November 1, a levee will be held at Government House, and ■ the Vice-Kcga'l party will leave Auckland at 7.10 the-fame day.

His Excellency has consented to becomo patron of the Wellington, branch of the Navy League.

The Rev. K. Stewart Wright F.K.G.fc., one of the world's greatest authorities on Central Africa, is at the' present time visiting' Wellington, as the representative of the London Missionary Society. Mr. Wright has lived longer in Central Africa than anv other living Englishman, and no one else has so closely followed the trail of David Livingstone. He intends to settle in New Zealand, and will probably take un ministerial work under the auspices of the Congregational Church in the Auckland district towards the end of the year.

Mr? John J. Irvine, a widely-known resident of the Wnihi district, died suddenly under tragic and distressing circumstances on Saturday evening on his <vay to the Wnihi beach, accompanied by his wife. Thev had walked half the distance when Mr. Irvine, 'without any warning, dropped dead. A post-mortem examination revealed that death was due to heart disease.—Press Assn.

Mr. Gordon L. Gilmonr, formerly of "'he Dominion staff,. who has been for the past five years a member of the Australian Press Association's staff in London, has joined the staff of the Continental edition of the "Daily Mail," and will reside in Paris.
