NATIONAL DEFENCE LEAGUE
BRANCH FORMED AT KELBDRN,
. A Kelburn branch of the National.Defence League of New Zealand was form- . Ed on Thursday. A public meeting was ..held in the Training College, and Mr. ;A. GTay, K!.C, president of the ■Wellington District Counoil, presided. The . chairman briefly explained the aims and ■ objects-of the league, and addresses were delivered by Professor J. 8. Tennant, -.vice-president of the District Counoil, and Messrs. C. A. L. Treadwoll and J. P. Maxwell. The (speakers emphasised the necessity for having a sound system 'of defence training in the country, and pointed out that, while the league advocated that, it also stood for a development of the standard of citizenship by the giving of educational lectures in camp. The following provisional committee was 6et up:—Messrs. Keith Marshall (convener), J. M. Smith, G. M. Morgan, Professor B. E. Murphy, Mosdarnes At. kinson and Muir, and Misses Maitland and Shand. At the conclusion of the meeting the general secretary stated that the league membership in Wellington city and sublarbs was now over 1500.
