The report of tho Butter Committee on the price of butter was beforo the House of Representatives for a few minutes yesterday afternoon, and was again talked out/'Members were fo have spent the bettor part of tho afternoon on the subject, but thoy became interested in other matters, including tho old question of Maori -war medals. Tho Prime Minister stated in tho evening that he could not keep the publio -waiting,. s.nd intended, if possible, to proclaim the new price of butter to-day.
Mr. Massey moved the second reading of the Death Duties Bill in the evening. He indicated that he believed tho financial situation to require careful handling on account of the drop in the price of wool. Tho increased deatfj .<l.itic3 were required to strengthen tho Treasury. Tho Bill was partially put through Committee.
A Land laws Amendment Bill .was introduced late in the evening. It contains some important, provisions, including a proposal to remove land from the national endowments for settlement on tho freehold tenure. It provides for preference in land ballots under the Land Act for'landless men with children.
