COAL TROUBLE SETTLED
COMPLETE AGREEMENT REACHED
PUKEMIRO MEN TO TURN TO
ON MONDAY
Due in no small measure to the mediation of Mr. P. Hally, of the Board of Trade, a settlement has finally been arrived at in connection with the protracted Pukemiro conl mine dispute. Tho negotiations nttained fruition yesterday as the result of a conference held between Mr. Hally, as special representative of the Pukemiro Union, and Mr. W. Pryor, representing the Pukemiro Collieries Ltd.
On Wednesday a resolution was adopted by tho • Pukemiro Miners' Union which, subject to the ratification of the secretary of the Miners'' Federation (Mr, J. Arbuckle), gave Mr. Hally full permission to arriva at a settlement with the Coal Mine Owners' Association The action of the union was endorsed by Mr. Arbuckle, and it is now officially announced that the miners will resume operations on Monday. "The memorandum of agreement arrived at yesterday runs as follows:—
"1. That all mine workers at the Pukemiro mine shall immediately return.to work.
•''2. That the engine-drivers shall remain members of the Miners' Union during the currency of the present agreement.
"3. That tho engine-drivers shall remain on shift as may be required by. tho employers (luring any stoppage of work, caused by strikes, stop-work meetings, or any other cause of a similar nature. ' 4. That work should be resumed as usual on Monday, October 18. "5. This agreement is signed in accordance with a resolution passed at a general meeting of the Pukemiro Miners' Cnioit held at Pukemiro on Octcber 13, 1920, to the following effect:—'That the Pukemiro Miners' Union 6hall unreservedly place the matter of tho dispute in the hands of Mr. P. Hally, with full .power to net on their behalf with the management of the company, and tha\t the members of the union shall abide by whatever decision may be arrived at' "This resolution is subject to the following conditions:— "1. That it is to operato only in the event of thej proposal made on October 12 regarding reference to National Disputes Committee and now under consideration by the employers being rejected' bv them. "2. That the resolution of tho union shall be endorsed by the secretary of the Now' Zealand Miners' Federation, Mr. J. Arbuckle. 1 "(Sgd.) P. HALLY, for Pukemiro Union. ANOTHER DISPUTE SETTLED After making a statement i\s the House of Representatives lost night regarding thb Pukemiro mine., Mr. Massey added that there had been another small dispute at the Kiripaki mine in tho north,, which .was rather an important mini?. This also bad" been settled. He hoped .that the country would be able to goalong quietly for some time to come and get. back to thja position previously obtaining, wbten it would obtain from tho coal mines enough coal to keep the conntry going without difficulty, ;With the exception of some supplies from Newcastle for thb manufacture of gas.
