HEAVY SLIP ON RAILWAY LINE
NARROW ESCAPE OF A TRAIN.

The train which left Palmerston North" for the Wairarapa at 4.45 this morning had a narrow escape when between Whakaronga and Ashhurst, about six miles out. A heavy slip came down from the adjacent hills on to the line. The engine-driver saw the fall coming, and just stopped the train in time. About a thousand tons came down, completely burying the lino. All traffic between Palmerstan North and Woodvilla Was stopped during the mominp, but' soon after 1 p.m. the Napier, train was able to get through, a large gang of ( men having cleared the line. This is the' second slin which has occurred in tho same locality.
