REDUCTION IN PREMIUMS ANNOUNCED OUTCOME OF EFFICIENT PROTECTION As an outcome in the main of the ereetion of the new fire brigade 6tation in-. Constable Street, a substantial reduction is shortly to 'be mado in fire insurance ' premiums in certain parts of th,« city.: Speaking as cliairman of the Tiro Brigade Committee at last night's meeting of the City Council, Councillor M. F. Luckia said that he had authority from this underwriters to announce that as from November 1 a reduction would be made m insurance premiums affecting the whole of the eastern side of Mount Victoria— from Roseneath to Lyftll Bay, and from Newtown to Island Bay. Policyholders would thus benefit by a reduction in rates from 10 to 20 per cent. This was, added Councillor Luckie, a voluntary concession by insurance companies doing bvsiness in the city, and was practically due to two Teasons. He referred in this conrirfittbn to the orection of the new lire station and to the councils carrying the whole burden o_t fire protection in. the city and maintaining control of its own brigade. This was a matter for congratulation by councillors . and citizens alilce, and was a complete justification of the hpavy expenditure undertaken by the corporation. At the suggestion of tlw Mayor it was decided to forward a letter to the Underwriters' Association thanking them for their (Smfi&nca in the citys administration and for the rej™' 011 " premiums. In passing, the Mayor said that the council had undoubtedly one of tho test fire brigades personnel in Dominion.
