THE COMPETITIONS
DRAWING TO A CLOSE FIRST " DEMONSTRATION NIGHT" THIS EVENING Tho competitions aro drawing to a close. Aftor over a fortnight's striving the uoctlonal competitions will come .to a clobb to-day and this evening, the first of the three demonstration performances that will eloße the festival will . tako place. Scin* nice singing was forthcoming In the girls' Bong contest for tho Begg scholarship (which means a year's : tuition wth any teacher), and the three young ladies who were rccalld wero well worth listening to. The vocal ductß for ladies were not up to a Tery high standing, but tho character work was rather good on tho part of the young girls. The ■ Binging of the Wattera brothers m the ' character duet was very pleasing indeed. In delivering his judgments, Mr. Harold Gregson pointed out tho obvious necessity of tho Bingcr having a perfect .knowledge of th-a accompaniment, which is renlly part of the song. , In his 1 opinion tho song beglnß with the first note of the Introduction, and docs not finish until the laßt note of tho accompnnimont dies away. Ho thanked the executive for tho smooth manner in which the festival had been run, and Mr. W. P. MLacMan for hiß excellent stage management. THE RESULTS.
