NAVY LEAGUE GIRLS' DANCE

FOR PROPAGANDA FUNDS. Very enjoyable and thoroughly success-' ful fruin ©very point of view was tlia dance which was held in tho Town Hall lust night, and of which the organisers wcie tiie Girls' Branch of tho Navy League, assisted by members of the Ladiss' Auxiliary of that organisation. There was a very large attendance or dancais, and a pleasant informality prevailed throughout the evening. Unfortunately nis Excellency the GovernorGeiitval was not able to bo present owing to a severe cold, but Viscountess Jellicoo attended, and w.is received by tlio Mayor mid Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. ,T. P. Luke), ■ Jlvs. Ilosking (president of tho Ladies' Auxiliary of the league), and pome of "tho members of the committee. With her came .Miss Gilletfc, Miss M'Calmont, and Captains. Mundy and Southey,' AP.C.'s. . The, decorations ,of tho hall were very light-looting and t pretty. Balloons were used with excellent cft'cct. strings of them boiilg carried from side to side of tlfce ball, and thev were also arranged in clusters from underneath the gallery, Iho front of which wns decorated with' festoons of drapery. Masses of Jycopotiium were suspended'from the ceiling, to which were atliichcd coloured stream- ■ ers, and the lights were softened with y'dbw shades. Arums, rtd camellias, .and pet-plants fqrmed the-floral decorations of the hall, and the Usual alcoves hod been arranged for sitting-ont. Supper was served .in the Concert Chamber, wliich looked very attractive with flag 3 draping the waMf and suspended from t!ic ceiling, and with its supper tables arranged with huge bowls of beautiful yellow narcissi and smaller ones of primroses and oilier spring flowers. Excellent music for dancing was supplied by Woodward's orchestra. Her Excellency Viscountess Jellicoe wore a gown of a warm mauve satin with side-panels of jewel-embroidered • georgette and with the same jewelled trimming on tte ccrsaw. ' She alßOWore a diamond .necklet and a diamond band,' in her liuir. Upon arriving at '• the hall she was preecntod with a bouquet of shaded anemones.
