WELLINGTON SUBUItBS CLUE. Tho Wellington Suburbs Club onencd its championship, and the ilrst match in tho first series, on Saturday, at ranges--300 and 500 yards, 10 shots ami sishter at eauli range. R. 0. Barklc headed the list with 97, closely, followed by P. M'Donald (95), who made 49 at 500 yards. Starting with a 4 for his first counter, he then rattled oil nine bulls to finish. K. 0. Darkle also mado 49 at 500 yards. The junior shots are being ably coached l»y the seniors, and their shooting this season has improved considerably, J. Heal, 1\ Barcham, I'. Wilson, 0. Bccgan, and L. Tho Karorl Defenco Rifle Club, In recponfic to an invitation to moot seventeen members of Parliament and six members of tho Parliamentary Prws Gallery, assisted to open tho season at Trentham on Saturday. Two matches were fired, the '.Parliamentary match being /North v. South Inlands, and the Prcßs match, Evening v. Morning Papers. After a cinst Interesting contest South Island turned .the tables on the North, winning the match by the substantial margin of 37 points. In the Prass match, the Evening Papers were the winners after a closo contest-. by only 10 points. Returned soldier memtiera of the clun fired a match •with.the rest.of the club, twelve men a-iide, and vere beaten by tho narrow margin or 6 points. It la worthy of note that of the returned soldiers' team, three served *s sniperß In the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Some very good form was shown In tho Parliamentary matcn, notably by J. R. Hamilton, who made the brilliant 8cor» of 24 out of 25 at 600 yds. Good form was also shown by A. Hamilton and T. B. Y. Scddon, wno were each only a point m>'hind the leaders in tho aggregate. Mr. jr. R. Hamilton iron the trophy presented hv the club to tho highest scorer in the Parliamentary match. Members of th* toams were afterwards entertained at. afternoon tea by the club.
