Mr. E. L. Eastgate, late engineer at the Melbourne branch of the British General Electric Company, has been appointed manager of the company's business in Now Zealand, owing to the resignation of Mr. J. IT. Ryder, who is obout to engage tn ""inisiness on liis own account. As a token of the esteem in which lie was held by his fellow-workers, Mr. A. I. Bailey, who has severed his connection with'the firm of Messrs. Sibmi, Ltd., of Petone, lias been presented with a fountain pen. In making tho presentation Air. A. S. Kent (tho manager) referred to the regret all felt at losing such a capable mtjmber of the staffs jf r , M. A. M'G.cod, director of the lladiura Polishes, Limited, died at his residence, Wilton's Itoad, AVadestown, on Friday. after a long illness. Ho lett a widow' and five children. The large concourse of people at the funeral showed that he was well known and highly respccted.
Plainclothes Constables-J. K. Eobertson, H. E. Knight, and M. 0 Sullivan, attached to tho Auckland city police station. have, been promoted to the ranK of detectives. "
