Ex-Snator James Lewis, Democratic candidate for the Illinois Governorship, lias asked President "Wilson to request Britain to placato the Irish in Ireland, in'order that the Irish in America may l>o placated. The Irish question, ho says, is a domestic ono for the United States. "Enough'lrishmen went to the war to warrant us in asking for a settlement. Britain. 6liould consent to the appointment of delegates from America, Britain, and Ireland to work out a solution, and should be willing to sacrifice distinctions of government."
