The Department of Agriculture bas received the following cablegram, dated September 25, from the Hfeh Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— "Meat.—English supplies larger; trade dull: prices slightly easier. Average prices are: Beef, Is. -Id.; mutton, Is. 9jd.; iamb, Is. lOjd. Imported meat forms 78 per cent, of Smithiield supplies, as against 40 per cent, last year, and 62 per cent, in 1914. meat in good demand; no change in price. "Butter.—Free butter in very small supply and dearer. Average price English is .£22 2s. Gd.; Irish quoted at J!22 15s. to .£23 ss. for finest. "Cheese.—Demand for English very quiet at .£8 165., j£9 Cs.; Canadian spot, market quiet and steady at, white .£B, •ftj 20.; coloured .£8 25., ,£8 65.; quotations c.i.f. lower at ,£B. "Hemp.—Manila market opened steady; demand improved later, and good business lias been done at firm prices. -"J" grade, June-August to September-November shipments sold at ,£O9; October-December shipment quoted at .£69 10s. New Zealand market inactive. Sellers quote liigh-poi'nts spot ,£56, fair .£54; AugustOctober shipment, <£54 and ,£sl respectively. "Wool.—Sales continue; slow demand, confined to better sorts. Medium and. lower descriptions largely withdrawn."
