$ CONFERENCE „\ND SMOKE CON- ' CERT, The conference <f the New Zealand Drivers' Federation continued its aittings yesterday, and a good deal o£ routine business was transacted. In the evening the visiting delegates were entertained at a complimentary smoke coucort by the Wellington Drivers' Union, at Dustdn's Rooms, Cuba Street. There was a veij large attendance, over which Mr. J. O'Regan presided. In replying to the toast of the visiting delegates, proposed by Mr, O'Regan, Mr. Davis (Auckland) Said the conference was transacting some very important business. Manv reforms had been secured in the conditions of' drivers, and they were now asking for a week of U htura to cover all classes of work, and higher wages. Mr. H. Dyson (president of the Wellington Labour Representation Committee), proposed the "Alliance of Labour," coupled with Hie name of Messi-s. L. Glover and J. Arbuckle. Mr. Arbuckle BUid that in the Alliance .of Labour rested tho salvation of the workers of New Zealand. Ho wished tlio drivers every success in their efforts to improve their conditions. The miners were powerless mltss they were united with other workers organised on tho basis of industry, "hey had. to organise as the workers of Russia and Italy were organised. r Hio industrialists must take charge of tho industries. Tho Alliance of Labour recognised that it would bo useless until it got into its ranks all the workers of tho country. A conference would be held in November, and ho hoped it t ould achieve desorved success. Mr. Glover said he looked forward to tho time when thoro would be an Alliance of Labour that would directly represent the workers <f New Zealand in an industrial parliament, making laws to govern the industrial life of tho country. Ho hoped that within two years an industrial parliament would be established in place of tho present political Parliament. A number of other toasts were hon- I oured during the evening.
