A peculiar position that resulted from tho recent strike in the sugar refining industry was the fact that of seven members on tho union executive four were amongst the party alleged to havo.beon victimised. This position was ventilated at a meeting of the union, with the result that a new Moeulivo was elccted, members considering' it inadvisable lo have men on the executive who arc not actively engaged in the industry. The election of president occasioned a lot of interest, no fewer than seven candidates coming forward. Mr. .T. Eoss, who formerly held the position, was. re-elected. A provisional levy n;as struck for the purpose of assisting the members who are alleged to have been, victimised, but Hioso concerned declined the offer with thanks.
