COMPETITIONS
PIANO AND ELOCUTIONARY TESTS JUVENILE HIGHLAND DANCING Tho second week of tho Competitions was commenced yesterday uuder happy auspices, tho interest in the results having: b?en whetted by tho tests whicil havo already been decided. Competitors buzz round the Opera House, and infuse tho liveliest interest in the proceedings, and no one who attends can withstand tho infectious spirit of the competitors. During the day tho first section of the pjano solo test for the Bristol Piano Co.'s Scholarship was takon. The second section of the test is set down for to-morrow. Other classes were the Irish song, boys' song, a junior elocutionary test, and some Highland dancing. An alteration liod to be made in the evening's programme by the substitution of tlio trial scene from "The Merchant of Vcnice" for "Holly Tree Inn." The scene was a difficult one to set for juveniles, but the performance was rjuitn good. Master Knox made an astonishingly glib Shylock, but was inclined to be a trifle melodramatic. The children in character recitations were very clever, particularly the work of Sinclair Breen ami Laurence Searle. The singing of Masters John Watters and Tom George once more gave pleasure, and the comedietta, "Mies Patty," was amusingly played by Miss Nicholson, Mrs. Halligan, and Mr. L. Inch, THE RESULTS.
