BOMB IN A DRAPERY SHOP THE CITY SHAKEN By Telegraph—Press Association—OopyTight London, September 27. A big explosion in the centre of Cork at 2 o'clook this morning shook the whole city. Rifle and machino-gim fire followed. A military searoh disclosed that the front of a largo drapery shop in Patrick Street had been demolished. Trim (County ileafch) were destroyed by firo, it ia believed, as a reprisal for tho destruction of the police barracks.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. DESTRUCTION OF TRIM BARRACKS. (Rec. September 23, 9.10 p.m.) London, September 27. Details in regard to the destruction of the Trim Barracks show that a hundred men cut the telephone and other communications and "then stormed tile barracks and shot a constable in the liead. The constable is in a serious condition. They also captured five of the constable's companions and others when they were returning from church, and fitolo all the firms and ammunition and 6et fire to the buildings.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
PRIESTS' INEFFECTIVE EFFORTS. (Reo, September 29, 0.30 a.m.) . London, September 28. The attack on this courthouse at Trim was a carefully-organised affair. When the police heard of the Sinn Fein success a party of police drove up to Trim, but priests persuaded them to forego reprisals on condition that peaco was preserved, and the streets cleared by 8.30. The priests then calmed the people, n-lio were terror-atricken, expecting police reprisals. Unfortunately another party of police drove up in motor lonries and refused to reoognise the arrangement with the priests. The police commandeered petrol (in the town and threw it over nouses belonging to leading Sinn Peiners. Theso were burned to the ground, also the Town Hall and the market-place.
