CASE OP CHARLES EVAN MAC'KAY,

There was further mention before the Court of Appoal yesterday afternoon of the application of tho New Zealand Law Society for an order to striko the name of Charles Evan Mackay, formerly Mayor of Wanganui, off the roll of barristers and solicitors of the Supreme Court. Tho grounds pf tho petition wero that Mackay had been convicted of tho crime of attempted murder, and sentenced to fifteen years' imprisonment, and wns deemed to be a person unfit to be a barrister and solicitor. On tho bench ' were the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), Mr. Justice Edwards, Kr. Justice Cooper, Mr. Justice Chapman, and Mr. Justice Herdmnn. Mr. H. P. von Haast appeared in support of the application, and Mackay was not represented. The Court directed that the rule nisi striking Mackay off tho rolls be made absolute. Mr. von Haast asked for an order aB to costs. Mr. Justice Edwards: Is it any use? Counsel: I don't know, Your Honour Mr. Justice Edwards: Ho is in for fifteen years. An order was made for -Cl 5 15s. oosts in favour of the Law Society.
