Jlr. Carl Seegner, who was consul for Germany up till tho outbreak of war in 1914, died in Auckland on Friday last?. During the visit to Apia, Samoa, of )lis Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, Lieut-Colonel 15. J. Hulbert, of Wellington, New Zealand Mounted Rifles, now of the Samoan Treasury, was decorated by His Eoyal Highness with tho Distinguished Service Order, awarded to him for services in Palestine. It is the first time Samoa has witnessed the decoration of a soldier toy a member of tho Royal Family, and the recipient was warmly congratulated by the British residents.
t Mr, Paul Curtis, chief postmaster at Napier, who will retire at the end of this month on superannuation, has. already completed 19J years' sen-ice in tho Department.. Ho joined the service nearly 50 yea i? ago in the South Island. Ho acted as relieving postmaster for a number of years, followed by two years and a half as postmaster at Naseby, seven at Foxton, live at Lyttclton, and a period of 19 years as assistant inspector and senior inspector. \
Mr. C. Hawlces Wilson, eheepfarmer, of Cabbage Bay, Cape Colville, died on Sun. dav in Coromandel hospital from heart failure following on pneumonia. He was the second son of Judge Wilson, of tlio Native Laud Court, and a brother of Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M.
Mr. P. W. E. Bush, who succeeds Mr. L. T. Symes as manager at Auckland of tho branch of the Bank of Australasia, on leaving for New Zealand was presented bv tho Mayor of South Grafton, Now South Wales, with an illuminated address in album form, also a case of cut. lory.
Mr. G. 11. Bellamv, formerly secretary to the Northern Woiroa Agricultural and Pastoral Society, has been appointed secretarv to the Waikato Central A. and P. Society.
Dr. ,Tohn Kirk, who was in Clirifetcliurch sonic little time ago, has now left Now Zealand 011 his way to North America and Great Britain. Dr. Kirk will remain for a timo in the United States and Canada, in connection with the re. organisation of medical missionary work in Canton, and will afterwards proceed io Edinburgh for the remainder of his furlough before returning to China.. Mrs. Ivirlc is at present in Christcliurch.
Mr. T. Bullock, who hns been chairman of the Ashburton Gas Company since its inception 42 years ago, lias resigned, Mr. Robert Bell has boon appointed chairman of directors in his stead.
