The Catherine vrna favoured with beautiful weather, and there was a. largo crowd In attendance. The big field in the Maiden Plate delayed tho start for a considerable time. When the barrier went un Birkie and Superßlx woro the quickest to begin, and down tho back they led Merry Queen, Released, and Bestir,' Across tho bottom Birkie and Superslx -were still clear, but | at the turn for home Merry Queen ran to the leaders, but she hung out. . After being straiehtened up she challenged Birkie, but in a good finish was beaten by a neck. Released was third, and Superdx finished well up. ~«.-« Kouen was a good favourite in tho Do. minion Handicap, but he was comfortably beaten. Orateur and Fisher were in the van for six furlonss. when Bouen and Miss Maid, closed uj>. The Utter finished the bent, and won by a cowle or lengths from Fisher, who beat Sea Foam by a head. The Disger was fourth. Simple Sam. Kurapal. Flamingo. _and Tarowanui were scratched for the Hack 6teeplechase. At the start Te Toa set a Bound pace, and led. for two miles, where he ran off. Nicomar waß then left in charge, but Sartoline headed him over the ln«t fence, and won easily bv a length. Sail Home was four lengths away., and Combustion was the only other to finish. The Memorial Stake 3 was regarded as very open, and the machine reflected tnlß opinion, for several of the runners were evenly backed. At the start Molyneaux. under 1 a strong null, led the field Trhieji was bunched.
