Contracts are running for a full supply of Newcastle coal, and a special steamer is at present under charter lying a t Newcastle unable to obtain supplies. By adopting the policy of purchasing every ton of coal that has been available, irrespective of cost, it has been possible, with the exception of the short stoppage last month, to maintain the gas supply to the city. I Owing; to the reduced supply of coal brought about by tho decreased output; of the Dominion State Mines, tho Directors with great regret have to announce that a position has been reached when a curtailment of the gas pressures in order to reduco the amount of coal consumed will have to bo made until such times as a more definite supply of coal is in view. i Every effort will be made to minimise the inconvenience to consumers by maintaining a full supply of gas |dnring working hours.
