The ar-rangement of the colours among tho flowers as they grew, tho joy of seeing beautiful things como to light and life, they would find was ono of the keenest delights that they could experience, and at the same time they would have the satisfaction of knowing that they were doing something to beautify this city, which, in truth, needed everything that could be done in this direction. Catholic Ladies' Club. To formally celebrate the opening of the now Catholic Ladies' Club, the organisers of which have secured premises in No. i Willis Street, a gathering of interested friends and members was held in the Concert Chamber of the Town, Hall yesterday afternoon. Many were present, and' tho chamber presented a very cheery appearance, with flags, pot plants, and flowers decorating the stage, and numbers of small tables arranged with flowers placed ready for afternoon tea. Occupying seats upon tho stage were His Grace Archbishop O'Shea, Mrs. Oscar Ellis, Father Holley, Father O'Connor, Dean M'Kcnzie, Mrs. Fitzgi'bbon, Mrs. Cowan, Mrs. Gleeson, Fntiier Murphy, and Father Dsherty. In the course of a brief speech, Archbishop O'Shea congratulated the organisers of the club upon securing so central a place for their gatherings. Such a club would do much to create a community of interests, and would afford means of discussing matters of interest to women. I{e stressed the influence which women could exercise in upholding tho sanctity of marriage, and in counteracting indecency of dress, signs of which were unfortunately beginning to appear amongst the women of country. : Such examples of noble womanhood as Joan of Arc and Catherine of Sienna showed tho heights of which women were capable of rising, and how great' their influence could be. The fact that women to-day had the vote still further added to their power and their responsibilities. In conclusion, Archbishop O'Shea wished the club all possible success, and said he was sure it would be of value to aIL classes of tne community. , , , Father Holley also spoke, and emphasised the value that such an institution as the club might bo, and also outlined some of its aims. In reply, Mrs. U. \. Ellis thanked the preceding speakers for their presence there that atterncon, and for their speeches. Mrs. Chnmness moved, that a vote of thanks be passed to them, which was accordingly done.
