The Washington correspondent of the' "New York -Times," quoting an unnamed. authority, states that the participation .of the, United :• States in the League of .Nations during the past nino months would have cost approximately -34,209. dollars, and if the United State 3 does not join- the League, and makes a separate peace with Germany it will probably lose loathe extent of moro than 1200 million dollars. The authority points out-that tlio Germans, under a separate, treaty, would probably not allow the American Alien Property Ctis'todian to' retain - 800 million, dollars' worth of -former German holdings in the United States; -nor return to Americans 400 million dollars, pf American investments in' Germany.
