GOVERNMENT CANDIDATE . OPENS CAMPAIGN.

Williams, in opening his campaign in the Government interests for the Bay of Plenty seat at Ivaiteratahi, said the fact that there was trouble over the early closing of the rolls showed how little the public men on lioth sides of politics knew of the lack ot communications in tho electorate. lie l;n!-:w- there would bo heavy taxation tor years to come, and held that those who were able to pay should carry their full proportion of tlie burden. His motto in life had always been "Help the next man." ITis family had done all they could to H'ttle the Natives on the East Coast and train them as agriculturists. He had always had good relations with Labour, and, as in tlie past, would support Labour got-' tin" a fair deal. A vote of thanks and confidence was passed unanimously.
