DEATH AT THE TERRACE GAOL

An inquest was held yesterday afternoon by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Terrace Gaol, into the cause of the death of George Ash ton Horrick at the gaol on Monday. The deceased, who was 39 years of age, was a married man and a farmer, and had resided at Parkvnle, near Carterton. On September ir> ho was committed by the Carterton Court to the Wellington gaol for medical treatment for excessive alcoholism. He arrived at the gaol at 7.30 p.m. on Iliursdav last, and was given usual treatment. He continued to improve until Monday morning, when he became violent. He seemed to collapse, and died at 2.30 p.m. that day. Dr. Gilmer, the gaol sureeon, who attended Herriclc. stated that death was due to heart failure, caused by alcoholism and nggrfivatod by_ suddpu v\oloncc. The coroner found in accordance with the medical testimony.
