THE NEW TAXATION
NEED FOR ROYAL COMMISSION. Tho opinion that consideration of the Land and Incomo Tax Amendment Bill by Parliament 'should be postponed until next session was expressed by Mr. G. A. F;w.tiek (Christchurcli) at yesterday's Conference of Chambers of Commerce, jln stressing the need.for the setting up of a Royal Commission to deal with tho Bill. Mr. Frostick said lie considered that justice should 1m dono to everyone. The citizens provided tho revenue, and it was their right to know that all tho Government Departments were being properly administered, and were being guided by economy, by the principle of saving, not spending. There should be no repetition of the Industries Commission. which he considered was "a waste of money, and an absolute farce." Tho incidence of taxation should be considered on a scientific, basis. Mr. Frostick saj/1 that New Zealand's sister Dominions had moved forward, and she should do tho 6ame. It was possible to increase production, and the country was capablo of great advancement. New Zealand should be put in tho best possible position. The Royal Commission should be composed of men who had made good on their own account. "I have seen men on other commissions," added the speaker, "to whom I wouldn't give ,£2 a week."
