UNITED STATES STOPS OFFICIALS' SALARIES. (Rec. September 22, 0.35. a.m.) Washington, September 20. Mr. Colby (Secretary of State) has issued an explanatory statement regarding .the United States' action' in stopping the Haitian President's pay. He pointed out that tho United States had > been administering: Haiti owing to tho republic's inability to carry on its own affairs and maintain financial responsibility. Haiti under the United States administration had been thriving, tout owing to the President's and' Other officials' policy, whioh is contrary to tho United States' effort to financially rehabilitate tho republic, it wna- thought expedient not to disburse their salaries. —Aus.-N.Z.
