CHURCH WORK AMONG. YOUTHS
— * RECOMMENDATIONS BY PRESBY- . . TERY. At Monday's meeting of the Wellington Presbytery' some recommendations, which are to be submitted in due course to the General Assembly, came up for consideration. The recommendations were:— "That for the management and co-or-dination of the youth work of the church the following objectives be recommended! —Director of youth work at a salnry, including expenses, .£525; S.S. travelling secretary at a salary, including expenses, •£250; office' expenses, .£150; B.C. director, salary and expenses, .£450; B <■, travelling secretary, salary and expenses. £250: total, .£1625 . ~ "That next Assembly appoint a director of youth work at a salary of ,£4OO, with .£75 house allowance and .£SO for travelling expenses. His duties to be:— fa) Visitation of presbyteries, S.S. unions, and congregations on behalf of youth work; (b) arrangement and direction of conferences and teachers' training work; j (c) counsel and assistance in the selection and preparation of lessons and syllabuses; (d) management of an office con. solidating S.S. and B.C. work. "That further appointments be left to the Youth Committee to make when deemed advisable. "That the headquarters of the youth work and Youth Committee be in Christclvurcli. . "That instho meantime a Bible clasq section of the Youth Committee in Wellington continue to control the agent of agents of tho B.C. work as hitherto. "That the Rev. J. G. Jamiesan be appointed as director." Oil the motion of the Rev. R. Inglis u was decided to set up a sub-committee to consider tho above matters and report to tho presbytery. The Rev. W. Sliirer said that presbytery seemed to take the proposals very quietly, but these appointments and the large salaries —large to those used tosmall salaries—needed eome consideration. ....
The Rev. W. J. Comrie. defended tlie proposals, and said -that it was known that if the Rev. ,T. C. Jamieson was not appointed, he only had to eay the word to gain a similar position in Australia, where he had already done good work. The members of the committee _ appointed are the Revs. Shaw, W. Shirer, Inglis,.Hudson, and Messrs. Duff, Hopkirk, and Baker. ' '
