MOTOR ACCIDENTS
SUGGESTED NEW OFFENCE; 1 By Association. Christchurch. September 18. The inquiry into tho death of the Rev, G W. Harding, who died in hospital from injuries-received in-a collision on September 5 between a motor-cide which lie was riding and a motor-car wns coneluded. In returning a verdict that death was due to shock following on the injuries received, the Coroner (Mr. S. E. M'Carthv. S.MO, said he would suggest that in order to deal effectively wjth thft numerous motor accidents resulting in damage to arojaerty and loss of life or personal injury, a new offence should be created, known as negligent motor-driv-ing, rendering offenders liable to a substnntinl penalty, or to imprisonmontn-ith-' out the option of a fine. Such offences should be dealt with by r. special Court, from tho decisions of which there should : be an appeal to tho Supreme Court in i fact and in law, but that offenders should , not have tho right of trial by jury.'
