The gift tea which took place at the residence of Mrs. C. H. Seville. Hataitai, m aid of the Anglican Boys' Home, ye«terdny afternoon, was largely attended about 100 ladies being present, and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. The rooms were decorated with, beautiful spring flowers, and afternoon tea was served in both dining and drawing rooing, Tho Rev. Fieldon Taylor made a stirring appeal on behalf of homeless, destitute boys. Before tho close of tho meeting all those present signified their willingness to assist the cause in 60me way. The following ladies hislpod with an excellent musical programme:—Misses Hugging, Jones, and Gawlor, and Mrs. Maysmore, whilst Mr. R. J. Booth ('cellist) gave two items, which wero greatly appreciated. The Rev. J.H. Sykes, in a few v words, thanked all who had assisted in making the afternoon such a success. A largo number of valuable gifts, in addition to money, were handed in to aid the coming street saloon October 1. Mcsdames Bayfield and Arcus and Misses Seville, Hunt, and Lindberg assisted the hostess in serving afternoon tea.

A meeting of the Wiu'e Awake Club will be held at the Y.W.C.A. next week to decide on the programme for tho ensuing term. All girls are specially invited to come along and join.

The Y.W.C.A. is offering to all girls and young women the services of an expert physical culture teacher. The class is held on Wednesday evening at 7.30 at Herbert Street Clubrooms, and those desirous should enrol at once..

A reception is to be accorded to Miss Adelaide van Stnveren, the distinguished vocalist, by the Mayor and Mayoress in the Concert Chamber, on Monday afternoon n»xt.

The speaker at the Y.W.C.A. service to-morrow will be Miss Nina Brentnall, 8.A., secretary of the T.W.C.A. in India.

Mrs. Moorhouse, hon. president, occupied the chair at the monthly meeting of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Boys' Institute, held this week. There was a large attendance. The president, Mrs. Hislop, was unavoidably absent. After the usual business, the ladies paid a visit of inspection upstairs. The newlinoleum on floors and passages made the institute look much more comfortable and home-like. Mesdames Cotton, Christie, and Bell wore appointed visitors for the ensuing month.

Miss M. Woods, of the New Zealand Board of Missions, is a passenger by the Moeraki. en mute to the C.M.S. Mission, Chek-iang, China.

Mayoress's Children's Fancy Dress Ball. .A meeting of the committee who is assisting with the arrangements for tho Mayoress's children's fancy dress ball, to be hold shortly for the benelit of the Citizens' Bay Nurseries' Fund, was held in. the Mayoress's room of the. Town Hall, yesterday afternoon. The Mayoress presided, and the meeting was largely atlendod. Tho following wero added to the committee :-Mrs. Aiken, Mrs. Eist, Mrs. Preston, Mrs. M'Gregor, Mrs. and. Miss Lloyd, Miss Beere, and Miss Griffiths. Representatives of the dancing teachers of Wellington wero present, and they were asked if they would supply lists of children, and also arrange sets of lancers from their respective pupils for special sots. The prico'of tho tickets was fixed at ss. for ono child, and half-a-crown for every other child in a family who intended going to the dance. Tho Mayoress reported that the date had been altered from October 1, on which it had been intended to hold the ball, to October 2, owing to the effort that was being made on October 1 for the- Anglican Boys' Homes. She further explained that people would be asked to take tableß for the supper, and provide all the eatables, tho committee supplying the drinks, such as tea, coffee, and cold drinks. Fiftytables would be needed, and, the following had offered either singly or in couples, to take charge of tables to date: —Mrs. Lloyd, Mr. Hunter, Mr. Viekerman, Mr. Simons, Mr. Norman Aitken, Mrs. Bulklcy, and Mrs. T. Cameroa (Hutt), Mr. C. Aiken, Misa Clark, Miea Bock, Mrs. Deacon, Mrs. Eichclbaum, Mrs. Murphy, Mrs. Eist, and Mrs. Carwell Cooke, Mrs. Firth, Mrs. Luke. Mrs. van Staveren, Miss Barnett, Mrs. Leicester and Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Preston and Mrs. M'Gregor, Mrs. Townsend, Mrs. Paul, Mrs. Hanan and Mrs. Frazer, Mrs. W. G. Eeid, Mrs. Elliott, Mrs. Ivan Levy, Mrs. AV. F. Massey. It was hoped that mors offers to take charge of and provide for the remaining tables would be received. A generous offer was reported by Mrs. Luke from Mr. Creed, of Gamble and Creed, who had offered to provide all the sandwiches and three gallons of cream. Miss Clarke and Miss Bock, and Miss Townsend, --era uppointed a supper committee, and Mrs. Murphy is to take charge of the crockery. A light scheme of decorations was suggested, principally of lycopodium and balloons, which could be carried out by the committee and it is hoped that liberal' supplies of flowers will be sent in by assisting friends. Mrs. Firth stated .that she would donate 1000 invitation cards, with envelopes. A day will bo arranged at which members of the committee will be at the hall before the ball to receive subscriptions. Miss. Eothenberg reported that as a jesult ol tho bridge party and dance given by Lady Stout) during the week, a sum.of .£21125. 2d. had been received, and one or two small amounts were yet to come in. A hearty vote of thanks was paeeed to Lady "Stout for her kind help.

A Parliamentary Tea, Yesterday afternoon Mrs. T. M. Wilford, tho wife of the Leader of the Opposition, entertained the members of both House of Parliament at an "at home, held in the Old Parliamentary _ Buildings. Few peoplo would recognise, the room in which Mrs. AVilford entertained her guests as the place in which w much of tho past legislation of this country has been enacted, so greatly has. it been altered of late.
