STATEMENT BY MAYOR,

Reference to the successful conclusion of the loan poll was made by the Mayor at last evening's meeting of the City Council. "Every councillor will join with me," he' said, "that the result of the- poll has craven the council opportunity to improve tlio city in every direction, and to enable works to lie carried out which otherwise would have not been authorised except by special consent.
