THE BIG LOAN
STATEMENT BY MAYOR,
Reference to the successful conclusion of the loan poll was made by the Mayor at last evening's meeting of the City Council. "Every councillor will join with me," he' said, "that the result of the- poll has craven the council opportunity to improve tlio city in every direction, and to enable works to lie carried out which otherwise would have not been authorised except by special consent. A feature of the noil was the consistent voting, a different experience to a former occasion. The ratepayers ore to be congratulated on the way they centred their voting on the whole of Hie proposals, not confining it to separate items."
Mr. Luke thanked the various organisations who assisted in the propaganda work. He considered the council was the right bodv to further the work authorised by tho proposals carried. He hoped tti<? present council would see tho whole of the works done.

In conclusion, Mr. Luke considered thnt the most important work to bo proceeded with was tho scheme of water supply at .Orongorongo.
