Cox returned.by the Moeraki this week from a. visit to Sydney and Melbourne. A wry pleasant afternoon tea was given yesterday, at the residence of Mi's. J. E. itamsey, Ssatuun, to assist the ef-ioi-t now being made for tho extension of the Anglican boys' Home. The hostess was assisted by several ladies of the district, Mrs. Henderson conducting a very successful salo of sweets, cakes aud flowers. Mrs. Howitt and Mrs. Knrnsey contributed songs. Tho secretary of tho ladies' auxiliary was present, and spoke of the neod of extending the accommodation of the homes. The monthly mooting of the committee of tho Levin Memorial Home was held at tho home this week. Present were Miss 'Archibald (presiding), Mrs. West luiowles, o Mrs, Christie, the Misses Morrah, Eobieson, and Barry. The matron reported that the children who had been ill were now convalescent* Visitors to the home were Mrs. Christie and Mrs. Knowlcs. The ladies' auxiliary met on August 31. Gifts received during the month consisted of a hand sewing machine, apples, marmalade, children's clothes, toys, shoes, jelly, broth, beef tea, eggs, dress, skirts, a rug, and from the Hawke's Bay Fish Co., fish. The gift tea, which was postponed, will probably be held about the iniddlo of October. On. July 20 Miss Jean Martin, daughter of Mrs. William Duirs, of Westmere, was married to the' Hev. Walter Lambert, rector of Christ Church, Port Autonia, Jamaica. Miss Peggy Willis, of Wadeslown,' left for Sydney yesterday on a visit to her sister, Mrs. Edwin Coach. Wedding at Petone. The marriage took place at Petone on Wednesday of Miss E. Crawford, youngesti daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Crawford, of Petone, to Mr- C. Uren, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Uren, of Petone. The Rev. J. A. Walke performed tho ceremony. The bride, who .was given away by her father, wore a dress of white crepe de chine and ninon, with pearl trimmings, and veil and orange blossoms. Miss M.'Scatou, who attended as bridesmaid, wore a frock of white silK and a white ercpe de chine hnt. trimmed with pink roses. Both carried prettj bouquets. The bridegroom's present to the bride was a set of fox furs„,and.to the bridesmaid was given an aquamarine brooch Later, Mr. and Mrs, Uren leil for Christchurch, the latter travelling in a navy tailored costume and a puipie and silver bat. Expenditure on Comforts for Soldiers. A statement showing the average amount spent on comforts tor, soldicis in hospitals in the various provinces by various societies, was submitted to the Ked Cross Executive at' its Inst meeting. 'Che statement was compiled by the War Funds Ofiice, and did not include cost of 'mndling, furniture, equipment etc., but merely comforts, for the quarter ended June 30.
