COUNTRY SCHOOL TEACHERS

LACK OF ACCOMMODATION.

The difficulties experienced by country teachers in obtaining accommodation were discussed by the Education Board • A letter received from the Education Department suggested the adoption of a central lodging-house scheme, houses to be built where they would ba a reasonable distance, say, four or five mile 3, from school. Mr. C. Harknoss considered the suggestion an excellent one. "Something must be done for country teachers," he added, "or else w,« will not be able to get them.' Another member considered the scheme would be practically impossible. Mr. J. J. Clark thought that a portable residence scheme' would solve the difficulty. A report on the-matter was suggested by Mr. G. London. The necessity of having accommodation for conntrv teachers close to the school was stressed ]>v Mr. B. M'Callum. It was proposed that the executive ascertain in what portion of the district n ceutral house could be used. As an amendment, Mr. A. J. AVhito moved that the Department be recommended to consider the portable house 6ystem. _ Tha suggestion that both proposals be incorporated in one motion was made by Mr. E. P. Rishworth. It was finally decided that the portable, house system be recommended.
