THE LONG-DELAYED SPRING MANAWATU FARMERS SUFFER. By Tnlograph — Special Correspondent, Palnicrston North, September 14. So far as the weather is concerned, the farmers of the Manawatu district seem doomed to disappointment. All the end of last week the temperature rose considerably and nice, warm rains set in, g'ving promise of the long-delayed spring. But conditions changed for the worse on Monday, and since then iho wen'iher has been almost wintry, with cold rains. This has given the grass another set-back and stock, more especially young, lambs, are suffering severely, in the dairy herds— which are, in most cases, in anything but good condition—niria a number of cows have died i.u calving, due more or le=s to the cold, and the milk supply, which should bo good row. is falling off considerably. Most of the hay an<l roots <\ived for winter have lieen consumed and unless warm weather sets in soon the outlook will be serious. This evening tbn snow is lying low down on Sie foothills.
