NATIONAL PROVIDENT FUND
"The contributors to the Nationnl Provident Fund at December 31, 1919, numbered 16,151, compared with 13,410 at the end of tho previous year, the new entrants totalling tho highest number yet recorded," states the ninth annual report of the National Provident Fund Board. "The total fund amounted to <£338,729 Is. 2d., an increase of .£91,828 os. Id.; while the year's income from all eourcea amounted to .-6105,498 Is. Tho pross annual contribution rate at December 31 was J291.449 19s. 4d, The nayments on account of maternity allowances to contributors and to members Oi' 'approved' - friendly socjetiels In 1919 amounted to ,£16.166 lis., as compared with ;£17,809 2s, for the previous year, the reduced amount being due to tho operation of the income qualification, as tho rates of wages have increased. Tho qualification has, however, been raised to' .£3OO per annum as from tho beginning of the present year, and at the same time tho allowance to members of 'approved' friendly Societies has been increased to ,£6 for each birth. The management exponses of the ordinary contributors' business for the year were at the rate of 23.5 per cent, of the contribution income," ,
