Luko), in giving a List word on the subject of to-day's big loau poll, Niid tha) in the intorest of Iho progress of tho city he hoped that all ratepayers would make an effort to record their votes and trusted that thoy would vote for the whole of tho proposals as submitted to them by the City Council. The works which had been forth on the loan schedule were those yhich were considered necessary to the bust interests of the city, and, whilst there might be those who individually considered that {"lie schedule could have been revised, the council, which took in its 'purview the city as a whole and tho futmi! it had before it, had after careful consideration agreed ito the schedule as submitted- There ni%ht even bo regl'eil in soma. quartesrs that other less important woife_were not included in tho schedule, but( the works listed were, in tile judgment of the council and on broad principles, most needed for tho advancement of the community; indeed, some wero bo necessary that they would in any case have to bo faced, and would be a .considerable drain on idle financo year by year. It was for the ratepayers'to say whether the city was to progress or remain stationary. If they had the permanent welfare of the city, at Tiearf they would vote for the whole of the schedule, and- so make September 15, 192 D, an epoch in the forward march of the .Empire City.
