A Press Association message from Sydney- announces the death of Mr. Thomas Brown, of Thomas Brown, Limited, C'hristchurch.
Major R. H. Macdonald, formerly of Auckland, has been croated an officer of tho Order of the Br'tish Empire for his services in the Afghan campaign. Major Macdonald, who was an officer iui.the 3rd (Auckland) Regiment, went to England, and joined the Imperial Army as a second lieutenant in the South Lancashire Regiment! early in 191-1. He was then drafted to India, and during the war was mentioned in dispatches on three oecas'ons. He. is. at present stationed, at Peshawar, North-West India.

Flying-Officer Nealo Fife Gerald Eagar, who was studying for Holy Orders at St. John's College at the outbreak of war, joined up with the Mai'n Body, but about five years ago exchanged into the Royal Air Fgrce. After. serving in France both during and after '(he war he left England last Christmas for further actiyb. service- in Palestine.
Mr, H.. J. S. Rickard, of Wellington, has been elected- a member of the Central Chamber of Commerce.
iTr. J.' R. Batten, accountant of the Ntew Zealand Milk Products Company in Wellington, has been appointed to the Underwood Factory. Invercnrgill, to a responsible position. Mr. E. Gapes will succeed him in Wellington. Mr. Batten will leave for the south to-morrow evening.
Dr. A. Kiddi M.8., C1i.8., was appointed assistant medical superintendent'of the Cashmere Consumption Sanatorium, at Saturday's special meeting of the C-hristehureh Hospital Board, the • appointment being subject to the approval of the Minister. Dr. Kidd served in Franco, nnd was wounded in the right elbow. Since his return to tho Dominion in 1918. Dr. Kidd has been resident medical officer for the Defence Department in Christchurch.
News has. been received that Lieutenant, A. H. Sutherland, of the 21st lancers, died a few <ln.vs ago at Delhi, India, from enteric fever. He was tho only son of Major T. and Mrs. Sutherland, of Manaia, and was an ex-pupil of the New Plymouth High School, where lie was prominent in athletics. Later ho took a military course at-the Duntroon Military College, and on graduating joined tie 21st Lancers in India.
