PATRIOTIC FUNDS
DANNEVIRKE SOCIETY AGGRIEVED By Telegraph-Press Association. Dannevirke, September 13. "Members of the Dnnnovirkc Patriotic Societv, after years of devoted service for the welfare of active service men, ar greatly hurt and disgusted at the insult" put upon them by officers of the Department of Internal Affairs in suggesting that they have misappropriated some of the society's funds, and demanding that the members shall personally malio restitution." So runs, a portion of a resolution passed by the society at its last meeting. The sum involved is ,£•250 odd, ,£l5O of which was paid to tho Soldier's' Institute and ,£IOO to the Pukcnra Sanatorium. The Departmental attitude is that such payments should not have been made, and that the amount should have been handed over to the Hawke's Bay Relief Association. Members of tho society maintain that they were a soparato and distinct institution. and were perfectly within their rights in doing as they did. In addition to expressing its opinion of tho Departmental attitude, the meeting appointed a' deputation to interview the Minister of Internal Affairs if necessary.
