ST. JOHN'S CHURCH

WORK OF THE YEAR. The annual meeting of the congregation of St. John's Presbyterian Church will be held on Wednesday evening. The annual report states that the past year has been a difficult, one, especially owing to the gaps in the ranks of the church. Dr. Gibb was sent to England by the Assembly in order to procure hventv ministers and twenty homo missionaries to counteract the deficiency. The Hon. J. G. W. Aitlcen, M.L.C., was nppointed to oft as Moderator durinn tha absence of the minister. The congregation was fortunate in having secured the services of tho Rev, 11. W. Burridgc. M.A., 8.D., as locum tenens during Dr. Gibb's absence, Mr. Burridge having commenced his duties in January last. During the year 1 Feveral members of tho church who had been 011 active sen-ice returned, and A henrc.r welcome was extended them. One of the elders. Mr. Stono also returned from abrohd during the year. The report states that two stained glass memorial windows are to be placed in tho south end of the church, ono on cither side of - the organ. These windown, n gift from n member of the convocation will be placed in. position, but will not be dedicated until the return of Dr. Gibb. There are now thirty-one members in the kirk session, and Mr. A. D. Thomson has resigned owing to his removal to tba Jxnver Hntt. The death register contains the names of Mrs. W.B. Williams. Mrs. Barber. Mrs. 'Dalgleish, Miss Mathie. Miss E. M'Gowan, Mr. John Steel. Mr. B. 0. Thomson, Mr, H. F. Davis, and Mr. John Knox. Mr. Knox was for many vcars a member of tho Management Committee. Tho session extends its sincere sympathy to all relatives and friends of the deceased. There are twentv-four membere on the Man. aaement Committee. Mr. H. Smith has resigned from tho committer Tho mothers' mooting was held once a fortinight. After the resignation of Mesdames Malcolm Fraser and J. H. Mackenzie. Miss Sinclair, assisted by Mrs. Whiteman and Miss Wircn, took charge. Tho roll numlwrs twenty. Good work dono by the voung women's missionary guild has resulted in n considerable sunt being Taised for church purposes, Miss Steel, the deacone's. having porformed yeoman servicc. The Sabbath scnool poll numbers 220, consisting of !U boys and 126 girls, being taught ill three departments. A total fltatt of 30 attends. The young men's hostel, young women's Biblo class, girls' junior Bible class, and young men's Bible classes have proved successful Contributions for other than purely congregational purposes amount to .£3718 10s.. breaking nil past records. Seat rents amount to JMlll and classTOOtuB ,£97. The oongregational jiving for all purposes for tho year amounts to .£5529.
