LEAGUE FOOTBALL
TOJFN T. COUNTRY. As a wind-up to the season the Wellington Rugby League played at Pctonc a match—Town v. Country representatives. There was a fair attendance of Fpcctators, and they were rewarded with a fast and spectacula-r game throughout, both sides throwing the ball about in good Btyle. The Town team (colours) won the toss, and Country (black) played against the wind. The Blacks immediately started paesing, and a good rush, the ball being handled by Krnse, Nicholls. and Shanahan, saw the latter score. Colours attacked, and Woolf had a fruitless shot at goal. After some fast play, Zimmerman followed up smartly, and dribbled over the line and scored. Keeping up the pressure the lilacks again worked down field, and a fine passing bout between Nicholla, Zimmerman, Henderson, and Shanalian saw the latter over again. Cliilds fnilod with the kick. The Colourß then woke up, and a good loose rush headed by Dalley took play to the line, where, from a mark by Pamilton. Woolf kicked a goal. Give-and-take play followed until Pobson, with a fine solo effort, scored. Woolf converted from a difficult angle. Jimt before half-time Whitley Bcored from a passing rush, and converted his own try. On resuming the Town forwards set up a strong attack, hut hard kicking Bpoilt the effort. Nioholls. by a tricky run.' set un a hot- attack, which was well stopped by Faniilton. From a scrum Xicholls secured, and dashed across. Tlio scorer converted the try. Tlio Town team then attacked strongly, and Scott nicked up and scored, afteri a good run. Woolf converted. A few minutes later Watchern scored from a passing rush, Woolf converting with a great kick. Further Town attacks were repulsed, and then Whitlev ar.d Porter worked down field, and Shanalian scored. Ohihls converted. A pretty combined effort by Smiley ar.d Brace took ula-y olo«e to the line, and passing between Henderson nnd fihnnalnm let Zimmerman n cross. Immediately afterward* Dallev oharged the full-back's return, and scored. Woolf failed to convert. Prom the kick-out Shanalian fooled the Town backs, and scored, and kicked a fine goal from the out-lino. Prom another good passing rush Shanahan Bcored. Kmse converting. Thi game then ended. 17 points having ben scored in ten minutes, leaving the result:. Country, 38; Town, 20. Mr. C. Murphy •was referee. JUNIORS. The iplav-off 'for second, .place In the .iunior competition resulted in a win for Suburbs by 3 points to 2. Mr. Goodall was referee.
