WOOL SCOURING WORKS BURNED
EXTENSIVE LOSSES CAUSED. By Telecrraoh-Presa Association. Chrisichurch, September 11. Damage to the extent of .£20,000 was caused by fire, which, at nn early hour this morning, consumed the wool scouring works of Walter Hill and Company at Woolston. Valuable, scouring, tnnning, and follinongory machinery, which cannot bo replaced within eighteen months, was destroyed, and the loss also includes 500 bales of wool, valued at ,620 per hale. The outbuildings were saved, but. the principal works were practically burnt to the ground.' Some seventy men have been thrown out of work. Tho plant, buildings, and stock wero insured in the Commercial Union Insurance Office for X 9770, covering about half Hill and Co.'s losses. In addition, some £10.000 worth of Government stock was in store, the insurances on which are not available.
