Particulars of the five new stcamori that are being constructed iu Great Britain for tho Commonwealth Government Line have been announced. Each of tho steamers will bo of 25,000 tons gross register, and will have 370,060 cubic feet of insulated space for carrying cargo. Tho steamers are also. being constructed to cafry 700 third-claBS passengers each. A feature of the life-saving apparatus will lie the lifeboats. It will be possible to launch them in less than four minutes. Two motor lifeboats, fitted with wireless apparatus, will be carried by each vessel. Theße two boats will be able to tow tho remainder of tlio ship's boats at an average speed of four linote. It is proposed to construct tlx'similar steamerß iu Australian yards; and on completion a fortnightly service will be inaugurated between Australia and England.
