A NEW LOCAL ENTERPRISE
BRIOK AND PIPE-MAKING. There is a prospect of a new brick, tile, and pipe-making enterprise being started hero on a large ecale at no distant date. Realising the demand for permanent material for building, a number of citizens, after prospecting for several months, have secured a block of some of the finest clay deposits near Wellington, which thoy intend to work on tho moEt modern methods for the manufacture of bricks, pipes, tiles and other forma of heavy oarthenwarc. Tho land is alongside the railway line, near Johnsonville. and thorough prospecting with bores of various depths has produced an estimate of a quantity cf cloy sufficient for 607,000,000 bricks, .cr 200,000 bricks a week for 60 years. It is proposed to form n. company and install tho most modern plant procurable, including all sorts of labour-saving machinery, mechanical conveyors and gravity systems. It. is understood that a full prospectus or tho scheme will bo published shortly.
