ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
A meeting of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society was held on Wednesday, Mr. I/. 0. H. Tripp pesiding. With regard to a letter from the Ilavera Society suggesting an exchange of fry, it was decidcd to let the Hawera Society know that tho society was prepared b exchange ova next year providing the matter was brcught forward early enough. On the recommendation of the ranger, Mr. H. Wilson, of Marion, was appointed an honorary ranger . The secretary of the Zvorth Wairarapa Committee wrote thanking the society for the liberal stocking of the streams in that district this season, the vigorous onslaught on the shags, and the appointment of a local ranger. It was hoped that nil would bear fruit, and that tho appointment of a ranger would he n great chock to the operations of poachers. Iho letter also thanked the society for the financial assistance given. The curator stated 111 his report that a start had been made with tho distribution of ova. The ranger reported that during the last week and Monday and l« est! , a y of this week he had liberated 81,000 brown frv in tho Hutt Kiver between and Aka.tii.rawn. 12,000 brown fry in Akatarawa. just bekW tho junction of Mailin's River, and 15,000 in Martins Kiver ICe tie'mill. There ,re 19,.M0 more brown s fry to bo released in the Hutt Kiver.
