BRITISH TRADE RETURNS
GREW INCREASE IN AUGUST EXPORTS. (Rec. September 9, 5.5 p.m.) London, September 8. The outstanding feature of tho Board of Trade returns for August, issued today, is the great increase in value of exports of United Kingdom * products; which were nearly 35 per cent, more than ft year ago. ' Figures for the month, compared with August, 1919, nre:— Total. Increase. Decrease. £ £ -2 Imports ... 153,250,000 4,500,000 - Exports ... 115,000,000 40,000,000 - Reexports 13,250,000 - *2,000,000 1 *Nearly. The principal items showing increases and decreases were:— Imports. Increase. Decrease. ,£ .8 Grain, flour 7,500,000 — Paper-making materials 2,000,000 Rubber 1,250,000 — Meat - 10,000.000 Cotton ; - 7,000,000. Exports. Cotton manufactures 14,000,000 — Iron and steel manufactures 5,500,000 Coal 2,500,000 Woollen manufactures 1,250,000 Totals for eight months, January-Au-gust, arai— £ Tmnorta 1,351*000,000 ! 910,000.000 Re-exports (foreign and colonial merchandise) 16/,000,000 The last item discloses an increase of .£84,500,000 on the previous similar period.
