The Prime Minister moved in the House of Representatives yesterday that the Speaker should be directed to issue a warrant to the Clerk of Writs to make out a writ for tho election of a member for the Bay of Plenty, in-succession to the late Hon. W. D. S. MacDonnld. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr. WilfordJ" suggested that plenty of time ought to he given candidates to visit the electorate, which was a very huso one. He understood tlmt at hast tiro weeks would he required by a candidate who wished to Ret round the electorate. Jlr. Massey: More than that. Mr. Wilford thought-that the r.'atter might better bo lield ovor for a day or two, since the election had to hike place v within a fixed period after the issue of the wiit, Mr. Massey Teplied that he did not intend either to hurry the election or deTay it. The usual thing was for the writ to be issued about a week after Parliament made the order, and for the election to take place about twenty-eight days later, The House agreed to the motion.
